That Is Not Feminism: Sexism against women is more personal than "sexism against men."

thatisnotfeminism:

A study by Swim et al had male and female students keep a diary of sexist encounters. They found that women experienced more every day prejudices and instances of discrimination, about one to two instances per week, “consisting of traditional gender role stereotypes and prejudice, demeaning and…

Captain LeBubbles submitted:

HA. I made it to the end! Take that, Escher Girls archives, I have defeated you! And it only took me a week and a half.

Anyway, I wanted to celebrate my defeat of the archives with two things. One, a redraw. I forgot to save the link to the original post, sorry.

Woo! So I’m not the only one who’s read every post! XD

Your apology doesn’t count if it starts with any of the following:

ablogorsomething:

  • I’m sorry you were offended
  • I’m sorry you think that
  • I’m sorry it upsets you
  • I’m sorry you misinterpreted
  • I’m sorry, but you
  • I’m sorry, but if you had
  • I’m sorry. *continues to do the thing they apologized for*
  • *sarcastically* Well, sooOOOoOOOoooorry.

All of these refuse to accept responsibility for saying/doing the hurtful thing, defeating the entire purpose of an apology.

"Misandry (a hatred of men) is absolutely a real thing in the same way that paper cuts are a real thing. But to balance a discussion of misogyny with a retort about misandry is to bring paper cuts into a discussion about gun control."

A fucking men

(via thatisnotfeminism)

I just read the whole article. I really wish the men who write these articles, trying to sound all good and supportive of women gamers, would stop down-playing the seriousness of this issue. The men harassing women are not little spoiled 13-year-olds. The man who designed the game where you beat up Sarkeesian is not 13 or 14. Trying to pin the harassment on teenagers strikes me as an inability to accept how problematic the entire culture they are a part of is, even if they are not personally the ones slinging insults. They want to believe that this is all the fault of a handful of immature kids, instead of admitting the problem runs a lot deeper than that.

The misogyny you hear about is real, and it comes from grown men. Just listen at Not in the Kitchen Anymore if you need proof.

"Equality is not a concept. It’s not something we should be striving for. It’s a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who’s confronted with it. We need equality. Kinda now."

YUP. Men and women ARE equal. We need to overturn the patriarchal structures that prevent us from realizing that equality.

Hate them till it hurts: On the MRM's encroachment of feminist online discussion spaces

I think what bothers me more than the MRA trolls is the seemingly well-intentioned “what about the men”, “see things from both sides” guys. Speaking as a man, there really are not two sides here, guys. Women are part of a long struggle to achieve equal footing, and we are not. It’s pretty…

Cookies for Breakfast: So a Girl Walks into a Comedy Club....

This is something that happened to a friend of mine in her own words.

So, on Friday night my friend and I were at her house and wanted to get out and do something for the evening. We brainstormed ideas and she brought up the idea of seeing a show at the Laugh Factory. I’d never been, I thought…

That Is Not Feminism: Good news for all you potential rapists out there

tripfeldthemystic:

thatisnotfeminism:

did you know that, even if you rape someone and there’s the small chance that they report you, there’s only a tiny percent chance that you will actually get convicted and serve jail time? (I think the number is 1/16) And even if you are brought to court, you can always say things like, “She was…

Just wondering - what exactly is the evidence that all the people who were accused of rape, and not convicted, actually raped someone? Plenty of people DO lie about rape, to be vindictive or to get money or for a variety of reasons. Evidence has to be beyond reasonable doubt, or the system will end up acting on emotion rather than logic and convicting people who didn’t actually commit a crime; it’s happened before. It’s not far-fetched to entertain the possibility that at least some of those accused rapists didn’t actually rape someone.

Only 1.6% of accused rapists are falsely accused. And 1.6% is smaller than the percentage of people falsely accused of car theft (3-4%).
